How To Create A Facebook Ad, Including How to Pay Through M-Pesa
I think by now you already know if you want to increase the audience of your Facebook posts you need to do more than just getting people to share your post. More often than not you’ll need Facebook to do the hard work for you.
Start getting real traffic.
As of June 30, 2017, there are:
- 2 billion monthly active users on Facebook
- Over 1 billion daily active users
Although many social media marketers assume this number will plateau, it’s probably safe to say that Facebook will continue to grow until they run out of new users to sign up. Only a couple more billion to go!
Unless you already have loyal subscribers you can count on, sometimes even your already established audience might not be enough.
So how do you get started with Facebook ads? More importantly, how do you pay for the ads via M-Pesa?
Here’s a quick step by step guide.
1. Head over to Facebook Ads Manager
There are so many ways of accessing Facebook Ads manager.
Actually, every time you post something on your page Facebook will ask you if you need to “boost your post”.
So click on that and you’re in!
2. Go through the various available options
You’ll then go through the various available options meant to tailor your marketing needs including
- Choosing your objective
- Defining your audience and budget
3. Create your advert
Now here’s where the magic happens.
You have two options available.
One, you can use an already available ad and two, you can use an existing post.
Either way, you’ll need either photos or videos that contain your message at this stage. It’s easier if you’re boosting an already existing post.
There are a few inbuilt features you can use to make your ad appealing to users including creating scrollable images, slideshow and canvas (a combination of photos and videos).
But Facebook will guide you on the minimum specifications your media will need to meet.
4. Choose where you want the ads to appear
If you’re an active Facebook user you’ll notice that ads appear either on your newsfeed or on the right hand side of the page. They don't just appear there, it’s by design.
So you’ll choose whether you want your ad to appear on people's’ newsfeeds or on the right hand side of their Facebook page.
5. Place your order
Now here’s the step Facebook really wants you to complete, and it’s where they get your money.
Once you click on “order”, Facebook will take time to review your ad and notify you once your ad goes live.
But How Do You Pay for Facebook adverts via M-Pesa?
In Kenya we don’t use credit cards; we prefer M-Pesa. But this process is not as easy as sending money to a Paybill number, unfortunately.
In Kenya, Facebook provides three payment options
- American Express in one of their accepted currencies
But I guess you can pay via PayPal if you have an account, since Facebook does accept payments via PayPal and PayPal works in Kenya.
But perhaps the easier, most straightforward way is to load up your bank account with the cash you’ll spend to buy the Facebook ad via the bank’s M-Pesa Paybill number (for example Equity is 247247).
You can then use your ATM card as a credit card (yes, you can do that). Just make sure it actually has the Visa/MasterCard logo somewhere on it.
You can then feed in the information on the payments page and Facebook will take care of the rest.
Once your ad goes live the amount you chose to spend will be deducted from your account. They’ll keep your card information so you can automatically pay for the next ad conveniently.
The process is still not as easy or rather intuitive as it should be.
You don't just need an M-Pesa account, you need a bank account and a credit card to pay for the Facebook ad.
